Surprise!

Look what I found in the sheep shed today… I was not expecting Betty to lamb for a couple more weeks. Good thing I love surprises. This first time mom took care of business all by herself. I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary when I was in the pasture working this morning. We took…

No News

Since the ewes are being stingy and won’t share the lambs with us yet, I thought I’d share another picture of the new girls in town. Tomorrow we will see how these two are with the Maremmas and if all goes as planned they can be released from their dry pen. (dry in this case…

Here We Grow Again!

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better I was able to add two more girls to the flock. These lovely ladies came from the same original flock as Katherine and 68 (who still needs a name), the reunion was very interesting to watch. They remember each other. An American Teeswater in Alaska

Rama Lama Ding Dong!

Lamb Watch

Katherine looks to be due any minute. Of course that means it could be hours or days until she finally shows us what she’s been growing in there. We’ll keep you posted 🙂

It’s All Coming Together

For months I have been saying “the Teeswaters will be here in the April” and “our sheep will lamb in April”. Well guess what? It’s finally April In addition to farm things April is also Mom’s Weekend at Washington State University as well as my birthday. A big month for me and I’m so thankful…

Shearing Day

For weeks it’s been sunny and warm in our part of Alaska, but on the day I had scheduled to shear, it got cloudy and cold. Fortunately we have the option of combining chicken flocks allowing us to use a portion of the barn as the “shearing room”. We started small and worked our way up. Betty got to…

Wide Load

Being pregnant is hard work, and there really is no end to the “funny” comments from friends and loved ones. In keeping with this tradition, I must say that I’m highly entertained by how broad the ewes are getting. I giggle every time I watch Matilda walk as her long coats emphasizes the protruding midsection….
